Vice President Kamala Harris took command from the start. She walked onto the stage and diplomatically approached Donald J. Trump, introducing herself with a handshake. Kamala Harris showed the world that she is a Leader who is not intimidated and can stand up to a bully.
This was a high-stakes presidential debate. It was the best moderated debate I’ve ever seen. The moderators were ABC News Anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis.
The debate was held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Millions of people tuned in as Kamala Harris made her presence known to the American people and how she will lead our country.
Moderator David Muir: “I want to begin tonight with the issue that voters repeated say is their #1 issue and that is the economy and the cost of living in this country.”
At the start of the debate, Harris said Trump would deliver “the same old tired playbook, a bunch of lies, grievances and name-calling.” VP Harris’ relentless debate strategy took Trump off the talking points, showing his inability to maintain focus on the topic at hand.
Harris: “My opponent has a plan that I call the Trump sales tax, which would be a 20% tax on everyday goods that you rely on to get through the month.”
Trump: “We have inflation like very few people have ever seen before. Probably the worst in our nation’s history.”
Harris: “Donald Trump left us the worst unemployment since the Great Depression… what we have done is clean up Donald Trump’s mess.”
Trump: “She doesn’t have a plan. She copied Biden’s plan. And it’s, like, four sentences, like, run-Spot-run. Four sentences that are just, oh, we’ll try and lower taxes.”

Economics Professor Yeva Nersisyan: “Trump is not one who has a lot of detailed policies himself.”
Economists said that Biden inherited an economy in need of significant rejuvenation.
VP Kamala Harris: “Donald Trump calls America a ‘failing nation.’ That’s not who we are, and Americans deserve a Leader who believes in our future.”
Harris attacked Trump by using his exact words against him. Trump has repeatedly touted the world is laughing at the United States, and that the country has become a “disgrace” as a result of the Biden-Harris administration’s foreign policies. Harris instead painted Trump as the “disgrace” that the world is laughing at.
Kamala Harris: “I have traveled the world as Vice President of the United States and world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.”
Kamala Harris: “It is very well known that Donald Trump is weak and wrong on national security and foreign policy. It is well known that he admires dictators, wants to be a dictator on day one, according to himself.”
In a debate that often turned heated over key issues, Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump were at odds over abortion, a top concern for voters heading into the election.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/video/trump-commit-vetoing-national-abortion-ban-bill-113569899
Donald Trump: “I am proud of terminating Roe v. Wade.”
VP Kamala Harris: “In over 20 states, there are now Trump abortion bans. When Congress passes a bill to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade, as President, I will proudly sign it into law.
Vice President Kamala Harris: “Donald Trump and I are two very different people—and we would make two very different presidents.”
VP Nominee/Governor Tim Walz: “While Donald Trump spent nearly every minute of the debate whining about himself and his problems, Kamala Harris did what she always does—she talked about you.”
Kamala Harris: “Let me be clear: I will always put the middle class and working families first. I was raised a middle-class kid, and I’m the only person on the debate stage tonight who has a plan to lift up the middle class and working people of America. Donald Trump has no plan for you.”
VP Kamala Harris: “As President, I will create an opportunity economy that invests in hard-working Americans—new families, our seniors, and small businesses who deserve a break with a lower cost of living.”
While taking a break from debate prepping, Kamala Harris went shopping and supported local small businesses.
VP Kamala Harris: “Let’s talk about what Donald Trump left us… We inherited a mess.”
VP Kamala Harris: “World leaders are laughing at Donald Trump. Military leaders call him a disgrace. The American people deserve better.”
VP Kamala Harris: “Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people. So, let’s be clear about that. Clearly, he is having a very difficult time processing that. But we cannot afford to have a president of the United States who attempts as he did in the past to upend the will of the voters in a free and fair election.”
VP Kamala Harris: “Donald Trump has been prosecuted for national security crimes, economic crimes, election interference, and has been found liable for sexual assault. Let’s be clear: I will always stand for the rule of law.”
VP Kamala Harris: “If you want to know who Donald Trump is, just ask people who have worked with him:
—His former chief of staff has said he has contempt for the constitution.
—His former national security advisor has said he is dangerous and unfit.
—His former secretary of defense has said the nation would never survive another Trump term.
I think the choice is clear in this election.
Watch the Full 2024 Presidential Debate: VP Kamala Harris & Donald J. Trump (ABC News)
Joe Navarro, Politico: “Good leadership requires us to confront our opponent head on. Trump’s refusal to lock eyes over 90-some minutes could be read in many ways: as a form of indifference, of disrespect, or even fear that looking at her would somehow put him on tilt.
In contrast, Harris looked right at Trump when he spoke. When she addressed him, she gestured toward him, even when he wouldn’t meet her gaze. She demonstrated that she had no fear of locking eyes with him, of reaching out to him, of challenging him directly. 9 Body Language Tells from the Presidential Debate

RECAP: House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries
“Now, the road ahead will not be easy which brings me to you know who. Donald Trump is like an old boyfriend who you broke up with, but he just won’t go away. He has spent the last 4 years spinning the block, trying to get back into a relationship with the American people. Bro, we broke up with you for a reason!”
Trump was the mastermind of the GOP tax scam, where 83% of the benefits went to the wealthiest 1% in America. Trump failed our country during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump is a chaos agent who is focused on himself, not the American people. Trump tried to destroy our democracy by lying about the election and inciting a violent mob to attack the Capitol. Trump put three extreme Justices on the Supreme Court who destroyed Roe v. Wade. We broke up with you for a reason. Donald Trump can spin the block all he wants, but there’s no reason for us ever get back together. Been there, done that. We’re not going back.
