How OHIO is Supporting Kamala Harris for President

Ohio Democrats: “Ohio is worth fighting for.” VP Harris: “Our country is going to be as strong as our willingness to fight for it.”

Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris: “In order to grow America’s economy, we must invest in workers, we must invest in families, we must invest in institutions, and we must invest in our small businesses.”

“Building up the middle class will be a defining goal of my presidency. Because when the middle class is strong, America is strong.”

Kamala Harris is addressing an issue that’s come up at home and in grocery aisles nationwide: Inflation. Prices are too high, she said. “When I was attorney general, I went after price-fixing schemes. And when I am president, it will be my day one priority to fight to bring down prices.” She said she would do so by taking on corporations over price gouging and corporate landlords raising rents.

Kamala Harris’ strength among working-class families and growing interest from independents, undecideds, and young adults could push her to victory. She has a proven track record of supporting policies like banning medical debt from credit reports and expanding childcare tax credits to give people the financial room to breathe.

Kamala Harris: “Any so-called leader who is about beating down other people is a coward. The real measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you lift up. That’s what this campaign is about.”

VP Harris’ presidential campaign is about protecting our freedoms and fighting for a better future.

Americans are rallying behind Kamala to defend our right to retire with dignity. She will protect and strengthen social security. “For millions of seniors, Social Security is the difference between getting by and living in poverty. We can’t cut social security & Medicare that millions of retirees & seniors rely on.” Vice President Kamala Harris

“We can’t hope that we defeat Donald Trump, we can’t hope that we can collectively bargain, we can’t hope we protect Social Security, we can’t hope that we address climate change. You don’t hope to win; you plan, prepare, and work to win.” VP Nominee Tim Walz

Ohioans deserve a White House that fights for working families. Governor Walz has done exactly that by raising wages, cutting taxes for Minnesota’s middle class, codifying reproductive rights, and so much more. He’s a welcome addition to the ballot in Ohio and a stark contrast to JD Vance, who’s spent his 18 months in the Senate fighting to gain political power for himself while leaving his constituents behind. Ohioans are laser focused on defending and expanding their rights.

Madam Vice President Kamala Harris: “Yesterday, we got a fresh reminder that Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would ban medication abortion in every state. We are not going to let that happen, because we trust women. Trump’s abortion bans unleashed a health care crisis for women across our nation. Now, he has made clear that he’d use the federal government to rip away access to medication abortion, effectively banning abortion nationwide.”

Labor Unions

AFL-CIO and the United Auto Workers backed Harris. The two unions have roughly 13 million members across the United States. Last month, Harris clinched the support of the American Federation of Teachers, the country’s second-largest teachers’ union.

AFL-CIO Unanimously Endorses Kamala Harris for President

“From day one, Vice President Harris has been a true partner in leading the most pro-labor administration in history.” AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler (AFL Press Release)

As Vice President, Kamala Harris:

  • Played a critical role in rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, investing in good-paying union jobs, bringing manufacturing back to America, lowering prescription drug costs and raising wages
  • Saved the pensions of more than 1 million union workers and retirees
  • Led the administration’s efforts to increase access to affordable child care and expand the child tax credit
  • Championed worker organizing and chaired the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment, where she championed for new worker organizing and training to create pathways to good union jobs
  • Stood with striking writers

The American Federation of Teachers Endorsed Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris: “From the public service workers and higher education faculty to the school bus drivers and the custodians to the school nurses and our teachers — you all do God’s work, educating our children — the whole ecosystem of who are AFT members.

It is you who have taken on the most noble of work, which is to concern yourself with the well-being of the children of America. And I thank you for that. And I thank you, also, for your support over the years and for being the first union to endorse me. And as you may know, I am a proud product of public education… Today, we face a choice between two very different visions for our nation: one focused on the future and the other focused on the past. And we are fighting for the future.

And in our vision of the future, we see a place where every person has the opportunity not just to get by but to get ahead — a future where no child has to grow up in poverty, where every senior can retire with dignity, and where every worker has the freedom to join a union.

We see a future with affordable health care, affordable childcare, and paid leave — not for some, but for all.

We see a future where every student has the support and the resources they need to thrive and a future where no teacher has to struggle with the burden of student loan debt.

So, as an example, our administration has forgiven student loan debt for nearly 5 million Americans and twice as much for our public servants, including our teachers”. (SEE Full Speech Transcript, White House Briefing, July 25, 2024)

UAW’s International Board Endorsed Kamala Harris

Her running mate, Tim Walz, was widely seen as a nod to labor’s influence. Speakers referred to the importance of unions in securing benefits and middle-class wages for workers.

UAW President Shawn Fain spoke about his love for unions, his great disdain for Donald Trump, and the Biden-Harris administration’s support for the UAW. He talked about how Kamala Harris was on the picket lines with workers and stood by the million-plus current and retired UAW members during trying times in the automotive industries. At the same time, he slammed Trump at every turn.

On Labor Day, Tim Walz gave a speech at Laborfest, talking about organized labor and Kamala Harris’ plan to fight for working families. (See the Full Speech on X(formerly Twitter). @Tim_Walz

Small Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. “In order to grow America’s economy, we must invest in workers, we must invest in families, we must invest in institutions and we must invest in our businesses. Our small businesses are part of the fabric and culture of our communities. Our small business leaders are not just business leaders. They are civic leaders. They are community leaders. They hire locally. They mentor. They inspire. And when we talk about the strength of our nation, all of those attributes are a part of growing our strength. Together, we will continue our work to advance economic opportunity and build an economy where every American can thrive.

Mark Cuban, Entrepreneur & Investor: “Kamala Harris is pro-business. She’s talked more about entrepreneurs and helping them have access to investment than any president that I’ve ever heard.”

Ohio for Harris-Walz 2024

Ohio Democrats: JD Vance built his career by attacking Appalachian people as lazy and has a 0% voting record score from the AFL-CIO. Rural Ohioans like OFT Union President Cropper aren’t falling for his attempt to rebrand.
